Among key statistics: Malaria globally wipes out more victims annually than the population of Philadelphia, while anti-malarials and treatment run only $2 a person.

"The result of this failure is a sting of death afflicting millions. The United States and other rich nations have it in their power to easily prevent this sting, and we will have it on our conscience if we fail to do so."

I can't agree more. Having been to parts of Africa where Malaria is a factor in everyday life -- something you think about the way you lock your doors at night here -- I found this a good reminder of how poorly we've addressed basic humanitarian needs around the world.
